For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10

Covenant Baptist Church was founded to make the Gospel (literally: the "good news") of Jesus Christ known in the world. This is at the very heart of why this church exists. However, to fully appreciate the "good news" we need to understand the "bad news." The bad news is that men and women were created by a good, glorious, and holy Creator God that we rejected (Genesis 1:1, 3:6 and Romans 1:25). For this reason, sin and death entered the world (Romans 5:12). We are helpless to save ourselves because our sinful moral corruption makes us incapable of choosing righteousness without God's help (Romans 3:10-12 and 1 Corinthians 2:14). We stand condemned in our sinfulness.

But God, who is rich in mercy, sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man, to die on the cross for sins in our place. He suffered the divine judicial wrath of the Holy God against sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) so that we might be reconciled to God. He died on the cross and was resurrected to life on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:4).

If we believe in Jesus Christ and trust in His saving work on the cross for sin, we are new creations or as Jesus Himself called it, "born again" (John 3:3). The Bible teaches us that Jesus is making all things new (Revelation 21:5) and that He will return again to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5).
